So very true.

And indeed, that's my point. One is merely a pale and relatively non-violent substitute for the other.

Ask yourself the question; how would the world have been if there had been no football World Cup.

Would it be less harmonious?

Would it be more harmonious?

Would its harmoniousness be at the level at which it is?

I keep thinking about the millions of working class people, whose first encounter with foreign countries is when they watch their teams play in World Cups.

I grew up in an ordinary suberb of Bergen, Norway, and I remember how South America was the place that everyone dreamt of, simply because of football stars from Brazil and Argentina.

A whole section of European society grew up respecting and admiring South America, awestruck by its football skills.

Today, at precisely the moment when Spain is having economic troubles, young people in the north are awestruck by Spain's wonderful football team.

So I personally believe the football World Cup has been a force for harmony.

I don't know what that means. I'm not asking for an explanation. I'm just letting it be known that I don't know what it means.
