Default Ethiopian long-distance runners

Long-distance events;
a) 5,000 metres
b) 10,000 metres
c) Marathon

Ethiopia continues to do very well indeed in long-distance running. At the Moscow World Athletics Championships this year Ethiopians Hagos Gebrhiwet, Ibrahim Jeilan, Lelisa Desisa and Tadese Tola all took medals in long-distance events for men, while Ethiopians Meseret Defar, Tirunesh Dibaba, Almaz Ayana and Belaynesh Oljira all took medals in long-distance events for women.

Well done to these 8 marvellous long-distance runners. And well done to Ethiopia on this amazing success.

Default Re: Ethiopian long-distance runners

3,000 metres is also a long distance run, and, at the 2014 Indoor Athletics World Championships in Sopot (Poland), the Ethiopian Genzebe Dibaba won the women's 3,000 metres. For men, Dejen Gebremeskel took the 3,000 metres bronze medal.

In middle distance, the Ethiopian Mohammed Aman won the men's 800 metres, while the Ethiopian Aman Wote took the silver medal in the men's 1,500 metres. Also, Axumawit Embaye took the silver medal in the women's 1,500 metres.

In the medals table, Ethiopia came 3rd, behind the United States and Russia.

Ethiopia has a large population, 94 million. The GDP is 513 dollasrs per capita (nominal) and 1,300 dollars per capita (PPP).

A large population, but a magnificent achievement for a country with such a low GDP per capita. Well done, Ethiopia!
