Default Lethal bodycheck

Only photo I could find. 15 year old hockey player identified only by first name, as Yevgeny, from Izhevsk, Republic of Udmurtia.

Earlier today, he was training with his youth team "Izhstal", at Izhevsk Ice Palace. It was a "two-side" training exercise, where the team was broken up into two and they "sparred" with each other. At one point, Evgeny saw the puck and went for it, as did an opposing player. The two boys smashed into each other, Evgeny flew back and hit the boards with his head. Kirill, a fellow player, says Evgeny simply was not ready for the hit, he was too relaxed, so even all his protective equipment did not save him, he bag having trouble breathing and started to lose consciousness. The arena doctor immediately ran to him and began giving him first aid, and then an ambulance took him away, but did not make it to the hospital, the boy died along the way.

So sad. He was just 15 years old. There is this culture of violence and hard body checks in our hockey. Older peopel say it wa snot like this back in the Soviet times. But now, we are learning from Canadians and others, I suppose. I think this should not be allowed, boys should not die like this.
