Default America's Cup

While a majority of forum members other than a canoer seem to be confirmed landlubbers, any sports fan can appreciate the odds of Oracle's comeback win in this years contest.

"After falling behind 8-1, the American team under never-say-die skipper Jimmy Spithill captured eight consecutive races to win 9-8 in the first-to-nine-wins series. Oracle won 11 races but was hit with a two-race penalty for cheating in a warm-up race with smaller boats."

Eight consecutive wins in a final playoff of any sport deserves recognition.

I've read several [American] blog posts over the last few months that were celebrating the fact that USA was losing so badly - apparently Larry Ellison is seriously hated by lots of people who wanted to see him lose.

Btw, from what I've read about this race in the past, shouldn't they be giving the cup to the engineers?

That he's worth $41B and extremely competitive might have something to do with that.

Not unless they're on the crew doing the sailing. Blue water sailboat racing is somewhat like war in that all plans are great until that first shot is fired.
