Default Football: Euro 2013, women

The Women's European Football Championship is being played, in Sweden at the moment.

The group stage is still being played, and then it will be the quarter-finals. There are three groups, each with 4 teams, and 8 of those 12 teams will go into the quarter-finals.

So-far, Norway have done very well, and Iceland, while knocked out, have impressed with their 4 points out of 9 possible (a population of only 290,000).

England have disappointed, and need to beat France to go through.

Sweden have also greatly impressed, and so have France.

Spain have also done quite well, beating England 3-2, but then they lost to France.

Personally, I think France, Norway, Germany and Sweden look like the strongest teams.

Probably a coincidence that those are the four countries in Europe (or the world) with the highest status of women.

You mean that Denmark and Finland are below those four? Where have you learned that?

As to the football, I made a mistake when I said Iceland were out. They have qualified for the quarter-finals.

Today, England play France. England must win to get through. Spain play Russia in the same group.

Sweden 4 Iceland 0.
The Icelanders return to the land of the Saga after proudly getting into the last 8, while the Swedes just continue to shine. Who can stop the Swedes?

Germany 1 Italy 0.
The Germans edge through, and the Italians go home, after a decent run at Euro 2013.

Who will join the Swedes and the Germans in the semi-finals? Tomorrow we will know.

Norway v Spain and France v Denmark.

Norway and France are the favourites in those two matches.

Norway have just beaten Spain 3-1 and are in the semi-finals.
Later today, France play Denmark in the last quarter-final.

Denmark v France 1-1 (Denmark win on penalties).

So, Denmark surprise everyone by knocking out France, and will meet Norway in the semi-final. Sweden face Germany in the other one.

Semi-finals;
Germany v Sweden 1-0
Norway v Denmark 1-1 (Norway win on penalty shoot-out)

So, Germany v Norway in the final.

Come on, Norway
