Did Reagan himself claim to have "won" the cold war? I thought that was just the mythos created by his zealous worshipers.

Damn good point.

Reagan was already out of office (1981-88) when the Berlin Wall came down (1989), so its quite unlikely that Reagan publically claimed 'winning the cold war' - he certainly didn't do it as President.

On this basis, I'm inclined to think that 'myth' was entirely created by his worshippers.

(And I'm not normally one to defend Reagan - indeed, I'll have to put him down a notch tomorrow just to salve my conscience here!).

To be honest, I don't really care In either case it's one of those sayings that have made AA & AI (American Arrogance and American Ignorance) proverbial all over the world. If Al Gore had made the list, he'd get a few too regardless whether it's him or his aides or his supporters where the claims originate. It's called responsability

For the annexation of Hawai. Possibly the starting point of the CIA-style dirty games abroad.

Note : I'll do one a day. I'm not going to check whether it's been exactly 24 hours or not.
