38 hours and counting. That's half my all time best (involuntarily that is). It sucks monkey balls especially as it was many months since the last spell.

Had your vitamin D levels checked recently?

What does your physician say?

For what it's worth:

I have a relative who suffered from periodic severe insomnia, went through all the medical/mental tests, quite a series, and ended up with a what she was told is a common prognosis of controlled high stress compounded by poor dietary habits. She divorced her jerk husband, adjusted her diet and the spells ended after her life stabilized (took about two years, nasty divorce). She refused drugs to ease the adjustment and after the fact said that was a bad decision on her part but she feared potential addiction.

No, no doctors. It's at least six years since I've been to a doctor. I have a very low opinion of medicine. If I had a broken leg or cancer, then, sure, I do go. But not (anymore) for vague ill-defined problems. You just end up with what GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer or Roche are pushing that week. I once was prescribed SSRI's which had side-effects ten times worse than the original complaint which they didn't even address. Besides, I've slept since. Only 43 hours this time
Thanks for the ideas though.

Vitamin D is OTC or simply found in milk

I had the same problem recently and I had a vitamin D deficiency

Milk ?
No wonder then
I occasionally see people drinking milk in American movies or series. Here in my corner of Europe nobody but small children drink that. Ever. I have no idea why.

Vitamin D isn't actually found in milk - it's added to milk in most developed nations. The better source is exposure of your bare skin to the sun. That's the only way humans can manufacture vitamin D. UV + skin = vitamin D. If you're caught nude walking through the streets of your little corner of Europe, I'm not responsible, but you can protest that your vitamin D levels were low! BTW, this vitamin has a role in the regulation of melatonin, which is partially related to sleep cycles and sleeplessness, in case you were wondering about the science of it.
