Russia went top of Group A after two goals by attacking midfielder Alan Dzagoev condemned Czech Republic to defeat in their opening Euro 2012 game.
Dzagoev gave Dick Advocaat's side the lead with a shot after Aleksandr Kerzhakov headed against the post.
Roman Shirokov made it 2-0 with a chip following good work by Andrey Arshavin.
Vaclav Pilar reduced the deficit before two thunderous finishes by Dzagoev and substitute Roman Pavlyuchenko completed the rout.
Russia were as ruthless in Wroclaw as the Czechs were poor.
While I still doubt Russia will get too close to the finals; this gives me hope. A strong start.

But, more importantly, two of the Russian goals were scored by Alan Dzagoev

All of Russia was cheering for him

for a Ossetian. Now, for once, Slavic and Caucasian Russia stand together, united in something. A great moment in our history.

By the way, thousands of Russian fans went to Poland for the match

Entire families came

Russian and Polish fans were actually friendly enough to each other Good to see
Although some of the Russians did wear these "joke" shirts

(To understand the joke, search those two names in Wikipedia)

Even were some guys from Buryatia! (Eastern Siberia)

I added a poll to the thread. Only 12 poll choices though, so I tried to list all the top teams (and the host).

Poll closes in three days since it all starts today.

no way! czech should win that game! I know Russians have many advantages especially in the sport budget. they have a lot of money to invest in the sport facilities, cause they are a rich country with the oil reserve. I don't blame czech, they don't have any advantages in natural resources. so poor,. but we can learn from germany, they don't have any advantages in natural resources but their people can build their economic position become equal among the big countries in europe. why can't czech do the same? and build their bnaional team become the most counted in the world? why? any suggestions? I want you answer it..thank you!

to michael
shares with me, what's the key that germany could win against portugal? what should czech squad do to become like germany? this is an important material and an important question to ask, or perhaps you want to train the czech squad? so they can talk much in the international matches?

Good start by Russia, which means that MeMyselfandI suddenly becomes a fan of them. instead of laughing at them, which he does when they go through hard times.

Denmark have also impressed greatly.

Germany and Portugal bored the pants off us yesterday, but Germany came away with the points.

And today, Italy have impressed me by holding European and World Champions Spain to a 1-1 draw.

Tomorrow Shakespeare's boys take on those of Victor Hugo.

Good luck to England!!!
