Default North Korea Fires 2nd Missile Over Japan

Things are getting scary over there...

Quote:
North Korea has fired a ballistic missile over northern Japan for the second time in less than a month, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said Friday.

I have trouble comprehending what Kim hopes to gain by all this. He already has his nuclear deterrent and its been remarkably effective for decades. Is he trying to trigger more sanctions or some sort of military strike? What's the point here?

Scary yes, but I don't think it is more scary than before. I think it is the unstable regime that is the real danger, not missiles.

For incompetent dictatorships to maintain their rule they MUST have a foreign boogie-man. For N.Korea, that is the USA. And for that policy to be effective, the fears must be stoked all the time. And Trump, being the fool that he is, has been stoking the fires lately and N.Korea will always react to that. So basically, I'd say that this missile launch is a response to Trump's aggressive rhetoric. That's how N.Korea has been playing this game for decades. US issues threats, N.Korea launches test missiles.

Well, if you step back and look at the issue dispassionately, especially within the context of history since WW2, it looks to me like there is some kind of symbiotic relationship between N.Korea and USA. Seems like both parties enjoy playing this particular game, or both parties benefit from it, therefore the game goes on and on. Indeed, it has been a modestly profitable game for N.Korea over the years.

It is also important to note that the US government has had the opportunity to end the game countless times over the last few decades and has flatly refused every single opportunity. Ergo, this is not just a one-sided game of lunacy as the media loves to portray it. Let us not forget that the USA needs to have multiple world threats to exist in order to justify the Military Industrial Complex's appetite for ever more taxpayer money. The goal is more money for the MIC - N.Korea is just a tool in that game.

Hence, the symbiotic relationship and the seemingly endless saga.

Jimmy Carter may go to North Korea again, which could be a positive development.

I can't imagine that Jimmy Carter could be any more effective in N.Korea than Dennis Rodman.

N.Korea wants a one-on-one "official" sit down with the US government and nothing less. US will not permit that. Ergo, the game goes on.

Yikes!

Quote:
Donald Trump just told the #UNGA that if North Korea doesn't change course, US "will have no choice but to totally destroy" the country
Given the hashtag, I guess that means Trump informed the UN of his wisdom via twitter.

Now this is getting scary. N.Korea can't start WW3, but USA can.

Yep.

The Trump administration is facing consistently low approval, a deeply divided GOP, non-stop murmurings about impeachment, and a special prosecutor currently putting the squeeze on the president's past associates.

I'm more than a little concerned that Donald Trump might seize on military action against North Korea as a means of securing his own seat in the Whitehouse. Nothing quite brings a nation together like starting a new war...

Nightmare scenario:
  • Trump launches targeted air strikes into NK
  • NK retaliates by opening up on Seoul with conventional artillery along the DMV (thousands killed)
  • Trump responds with mass bombing and missile strikes against NK military
  • NK, facing the decimation of its conventional forces, retalitates with a nuke against Guam, Seoul, or Japan.
  • Trump responds with a full nuclear launch against NK
  • China retaliates by nuking San Francisco
  • WW3
  • Everybody dies

Yes, this is a real concern.

Yes, that's one way this could play out.

Hopefully it doesn't play out like that and Trump is just doing the usual bluster and bullshit that he's so well known for.

Ron Paul is a broken record. He keeps saying the same things over and over again. He has made himself irrelevant to the debate.

American voters have resoundingly and repeatedly decided to ignore him.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like to see America become a whole lot militaristic and less internationally intrusive with that military, I'm just pointing out that Ron Paul has been a political failure outside of his own congressional seat. I'm saying that his message just doesn't sell in America.
