Default Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin (Marvel Comics)

Spider-Man (Peter Parker) and his eerie nemesis Green Goblin (Norman Osborn) are two superhuman characters in the world of Marvel Comics.

These two titans of comics art were presented in the Hollywood (USA) film "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" [2014].

Peter Parker is a mild-mannered photojournalist for the Daily Bugle whose strange spider-bite transformed him into a crawling and web-soaring superhero named Spider-Man.

Norman Osborn was the head of the controversial science research firm Oscorp, and a strange chemical mutation during an experiment transformed Osborn into the glider-soaring and pumpkin-bomb throwing super-terrorist Green Goblin.

Spider-Man and Green Goblin are both extra-human mutants who symbolize a modern age human fascination with the unpredictability of science and the mysteries of evolution as they relate to strength, intelligence, and flexibility.

Spider-Man challenges the glider-soaring Green Goblin with his web-soaring prowess and his ability to tie up his adversaries with his annoying cobwebs. Green Goblin defies Spider-Man's strength with his relentless glider pursuit and destructive pumpkin-bombs.

Spider-Man and Green Goblin are great comics art avatars to use in liberal discussions about 'science creepiness.'

Default The Gloves

Here's a short-story I wrote involving Spider-Man and the Green Goblin and a peculiar pair of purple wool winter gloves that seem to be haunted.

====

Peter Parker opened up the Christmas box his late Aunt May gave him right before she passed away. Inside the box was a pair of handsome deep-purple wool winter gloves, just cool enough to be considered gloves for a young man. Peter was very happy and read Aunt May's gift-note attached, which read, "These lucky gloves will bring you more fortune than you expect, Peter!"

Spider-Man (Peter Parker) was soaring around NYC on a snowy Saturday night in January wearing the purple gloves his Aunt May gave him. He noticed Green Goblin soaring around too menacingly on his jet-glider and carrying pumpkin-bombs which he seemed to be aiming at the ice-skating rink at Rockefeller Plaza. As Spider-Man soared towards his nemesis, he felt his gloves were getting oddly tighter and giving him some strange extra grip (and strength!).

Spider-Man wrestled Green Goblin off his jet-glider and onto the ground. He then used his cobwebs to tie up the ghoul and hauled him off to the Ravencroft Institute for criminal rehabilitation and biopsychological research. As Spider-Man was walking out of the building, having handed the Green Goblin over to the authorities and scientists, he felt his gloves getting looser but also warmer.

Peter decided that his gloves were somehow 'charmed' or 'magically touched' (or perhaps even haunted) by some protective spirit. Peter realized that if these magical gloves Aunt May left him fell into the hands of someone demonic such as the Green Goblin, all hell would break loose. Meanwhile, Norman Osborn (Green Goblin) was lying down in his cell at Ravencroft and amused to himself "Those peculiar purple gloves Spider-Man was wearing seemed to give him confidence. It must be confidence I can steal!"
