Your turn!
This country consists of land occupied/conquered by the Helvetii tribe in the 5th century AD.

The country as it is known today was created by a famous battle where the Burgundians were defeated.

Indeed, I would have considered it an easy one too, but I do like easy games that tend to foster side-line conversations and amusement rather than intensive competition.

And yes, you are correct. You're up.

It has a certain utility, but it is far from preferential.

A bourgeoisie* I stayed with in Ecuador called it "a sin."

*Not a pejorative, that's just what she was.

Of the countries with a population of at least one million, which one has the shortest coastline? It's a whopping 20km (12 miles).

I was in Monaco two years ago. I'd be surprised to find out the coastline was that long - but I don't think Monaco has a million pop.

No, Monaco has a population of about 35,000 or so. You can't get in there unless you're really rich. That's because there's no income tax there. Only the very rich can't afford to pay taxes of course.

Anyway, the 1 million population cap is specifically to exclude mini states. We're looking for a proper country. Albeit that its short coastline has a political rather than a geographical origin....

Nope.
The 20 km coastline is the result of the imposition of a corridor for access to a sea one historical nation forced upon another historical nation in 1699. Somehow, and it's almost miraculously given the region where this country is, that corridor survived to the present even as it still cuts of part of another country from the rest of it.
The historical nation which imposed this corridor was the Ottoman Empire.
