We can go a little more esoteric I guess. The "liberator" of this country is entombed in the main cathedral of the capital, but the mausoleum is actually a separate wing of the building rather than the Cathedral proper due to fact that its resident was a freemason.

Sure, why not?

As long as they are not too obscured by the mists of proto-history.

Hmmm... I'll go with Simon de Bolivar as the liberator, and therefore Venezuela as the country, though I have no idea where he's actually buried.

Bolivar died in Colombia and was briefly buried there, but his remains were eventually moved to Venezuela. He was also a freemason.

Venezuela, however, is not the country I am looking for, and therefore Bolivar is not the independence leader which I am referencing.

Right continent and same time period of independence, though.

I'm not aware of any independence leader in South America other than Bolivar - didn't he lead the independence movements in like a half-dozen South American countries?

Hmmm... except in Brazil.

Bolivar did the North, the other guy did the south, they met in Peru and high-five.*

*Donkey version of events.

Another hint: as part of their arsenal of psychological warfare, the fascist dictators of this country in the 70s and 80s would arrest young leftist dissident families, steal their children, execute the parents, and then give the babies to people in the higher levels of government to raise as their own.

I'm going to guess Argentina then. Not that many countries in the southern part but on the other hand I have no idea who the alluded liberador is.
Maybe that guy from the Falklands ship, erm, Bengrano, Belgrado (this is a no lookie-uppie game, isn't it?)

Also: for sale: faulty memory, retrieval mechanism needs replacement, $15.

Argentina is correct! San Martin is worth a peep if you're into that sort of thing.

You're up Dom!

I must admit I'd never even heard of the chap.

Anyway, this country has the highest language density in the world. That is, active languages per capita. On average, it has one language per 2,000 inhabitants. In case of , its independence war was called the Coconut War.
