Default 2009 World Series: Phillies and Yankees

We don't seem like a particularly sporty forum, but since things are kind of slow I thought I'd put this up.

I'm not much of a fan of any team (in any professional sport) so I usually just root for the underdogs. This year there doesn't seem to be an underdog: the Phillies are a strong team and the defending champions and the Yankees are, well, the Yankees. So I'm falling back on my next inclination, to root for the locals: Go Phillies!

I don't care much for baseball; it is too slow for me and I would much rather play it than to watch it....

With that being said, I will "root" for the Phillies, but that is because the Yanks are always so freaking overrated whether they're good or not. They are my Duke University of MLB.

As a general rule, when it comes to choosing between two cities in a sporting event, I favor the city I prefer to visit.

In this case, that would be the Yankees. Philly is such an ugly place.

At least I got to see A-Rod get nailed with an 89 m.p.h. pitch last night. It was his third time in the last two games getting hit by pitches...

And thus, you have in a nutshell the reason I gave up on baseball - which was the only pro sport I actually did follow for many years. I quit with the strike back in 94 and haven't seen a game since, though I was a huge fan back in the 1984-94 period (I used to like to listen to games on the radio, rather than watch them - and it was a pleasure watching the Blue Jay's methodical rise from expansion team to back-to-back World Series wins).

I am the lone Yankees fan in the poll. As an old-time baseball fan, Yankees were always my team until I became a hometown Jays fan. As a little kid, I always wore a Yankees baseball hat and even had pinstriped Yankees PJ's.
