Well Columbus discovered America, doncha know.

Canada vs France later today, and then Germany vs Nigeria.

Canada and Germany should emerge successful from those two matches, but of course, you never know. Football is a funny old game.

Good luck, Michael, with the Canadian team, daughter's of that fine country, discovered by the Norwegians, in 1028.

It's half-time and the French are leading 1-0 against the Canadians. Quite a suprise that. Obviously the French have been doing some extra practice.

It's 3-0 to the French. Canada lost to Germany in the first match (no shame in that), but this is a shock. Tut tut!

France 4 Canada 0 (final result).

A fantastic performance by the French, who have now won both their first 2 matches in this World Cup.

Mes félicitations les plus sincres a nos amis entre la Manche, les Pyrennées, les Alpes et le Rhein.

Germany vs Nigeria 1-0 (result).

Germany and France are both through to the quarter-finals, but will play each other first, to decide who goes through as group winners.

France have surprised everyone with an absolutely blistering start, but the Germans have a fantastic record in the last 3-4 years.

They are both through, but when they meet, it will be a cauldronic atmosphere, with these two countries being old rivals and friends.

Canada losing to France is a shocker. Many hopes for an impressive finish for the Canadian Women's team have been dashed.

The Japanese have now shocked us all, just like the French.
They are leading against the strong Mexicans by 3 goals to 0, at half time.

They also beat New Zealand in their first match.

So the Japanese are suddenly flying high.

Well done, Japan!

Japan thrashed Mexico 4-0, and have had a wonderful start.

England are losing to New Zealand by 1 goal to 0.

What on earth is going on???
