Default Best Musical Artist

Ok, I called it musical artist because it's not limited to bands or rock.

There's a hundred of them so to get things moving a bit I suggest you can make a +2, +1, -1, -2 each day. You can thus affect four Musical Artists (TM) each post.

Have fun !

+2 for Radiohead because I think they are the best band pushing music to new levels even today.

+1 for The Pixies because without them we never would have even had Nirvana.

-2 for Metallica because really they had a couple great albums but most of them are crap.

-1 for Journey because I had to listen to that shit on a juke box at work for years and it isn't even close to being as good as people think it is.

I'm first going to credit voices. Female voices. What Björk is capable of sometimes defies hearing. And the much maligned band Abba held one of the most beautiful voices ever in pop, that of Agnetha Fältskog.

A minus two goes to Bon Jovi. Yuck !
A minus one to Guns' and Roses for similar reasons though they're not that bad.

Sweet... I just noticed Traffick there!!! "The low spark of high heeled boys" is not only one of the coolest songs of all time, it is a pretty cool title - if you know where it comes from.

(This was a big thing when I was in high school)

+2 to the Beatles, because they are arguably the most influential rock band ever. +1 to Metallica because their early stuff had a lot of influence on Metal and was pretty damned good (I don't think they're the greatest by any stretch, but I don't think they deserve to slide off the list anywhere near as quickly as things like Journey or the Bee Gees).

-1 to the Bee Gees because there's no -20 option, and -2 to Bon Jovi because he really, really sucks (the amusing spectacle of drunk frat boys in a Pittsburgh bar belting out "Livin on a Prayer" aside )

I also might suggest amending the title to "Best Rock-Type Artist". Aside from Johnny Cash (country) and a few other exceptions, that's mostly what we have here. No BB King, Mozart, Miles Davis, Biggie Smalls, etc, indicates that those respective genres are not being considered.

I think the BeeGees seem like a "North American" equivilent to the "European" Abba.

They were both wildly popular and successful in their day, with lots of chart topping 'bubble-gum' hits. They are both had rather 'clean' images yet both groups seem somehow vaguely creepy and very easy to make fun of.

Not to mention Mozart, Bach and Beethoven, who were (arguably) great musical artists.

Björk +1 and Bowie +2, for innovation skills and great candy for both the ears and the mind. Soundgarden -2 for having nothing in the bag, and Dire Straits -1 because I never liked Knopfler's monotony.

+2 to Santana for being old as sin and still an amazing guitarist, and for exploring new genres and mixing and matching as music evolves.
+1 to Zeppelin for being Awesome.
-1 to Lynyrd Skynyrd because I get a vaguely bigoted vibe from them most of the time.
-2 to the Grateful Dead because I can't stand them.
