Default New primate discovered

This chap:

is a species of primate, a monkey, that's only just been discovered in the jungle of the Democratic Republic Congo. His name is Cercopithecus lomamiensis or just lesula.

I find it fascinating that even as the rainforest gets decimated we still find the occasional (it was 28 years ago) close cousin of ours. The problem is that the scientists and explorers are immediately followed by the multinational loggers and beef producers. This chap and his buddies may go from vulnerable to critically endangered in mere decades.
But at least we have teak and mahogany tables in our living rooms. First things first and all that.

Default Re: New primate discovered

It is rather remarkable that we are still discovering new species in this day and age - especially a large mammal.

A pity that its days are probably numbered.
